Last week, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys’ basketball squad made the most of their two appearances on the hardwood.

Against Humboldt on Friday night, forward Chaz Lane got on the board early in the 1st quarter with a strong take to the rim, and a corner triple by guard Ethan Hasty gave CGD a 17-12 cushion.

In the 2nd, the Cowboys made Humboldt pay with strong cuts to the basket. They ran their offense to perfection and found the open man often. The tenacious Wildcats tried to stay in the game by crashing the offensive glass, but a comeback was not in the cards for them.

Johnny Lomeli and Jacob Ruba both hit threes for CGD after a halftime intermission, and an up-and-under by Lane increased the lead to 35-20.

Huxley Lingenfelter had a strong 4th quarter and finished with 13 points on 67% shooting. Lane was crucial to the 51-35 Cowboy victory and finished with 13 points, 12 boards, and 4 assists.

Hasty went 2-for-4 from deep for six points off the bench.

On Saturday against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, CGD trailed 31-27 at halftime, but a stingy Cowboy defense managed to limit the Cardinals to just 18 2nd half points. The Cowboys completed a thrilling comeback and sent GHV home with a 59-49 loss.

Huxley Lingenfelter had 12 points on 50% shooting to go along with 11 boards, 4 steals and a block. Lane contributed 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals, and Morrical added 13 points and 6 rebounds.

Freshman Paxton Lingenfelter provided a spark with 7 points and 3 assists, and Tristan Kakacek had 5 points and a pair of steals in the win.
